Heat Pumps

Air Source Heat Pumps extract heat from the outside air and using sophisticated heat exchangers this heat is transferred into your home.

Air Source Heat Pumps usually required an external unit collecting ambient heat from the outside air which is then transferred to an internal unit which uses the refrigerant cycle to transfer the heat into central heating and hot water system. By applying a little more energy from electricity a heat pump can raise the temperature of this heat energy to the level required in the home. Heat Pumps offer an energy efficient way of providing heating in the home, as they acquire 78% of their heat energy from free and renewable sources.

Solar Thermal

Solar thermal technology uses the sun’s energy, rather than fossil fuels, to generate low-cost, environmentally friendly thermal energy. This energy is used to heat water or other fluids,  and can also  power solar cooling systems.  Solar thermal systems differ from solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, which generate electricity rather than heat. Solar thermal systems create value by reducing utility bills by up to 70% while also reducing your carbon footprint.

How a solar thermal system works

 1. Solar thermal collectors (panels)  on a roof, shade structure or other location absorb solar energy.

 2. Solar fluid circulated through the collectors by a low-energy pump delivers  heat to a  water storage tank.

 3. When users  need hot water,  the solar-heated water in the storage tank pre-feeds the primary water-heating system.

 4. When pre-fed with the solar hot water, the boiler or water heater is either not activated, or activated for less time than if there were no  solar hot water system.

 5. Each month,  building owners pay a lower bill for energy to heat water.

Solar Photovoltaic

Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels which also collect sunlight, are a very different technology to solar water heating, as they use light to generate electricity. In essence, photovoltaic solar panels in solar energy systems use daylight (not necessarily direct sunlight) to convert solar radiation into electricity. The light which shines on the PV cells creates an electric field causing electricity to flow. The greater the intensity of the light, the greater the flow of electricity.

One of the advantages of  solar photovoltaic (solar PV)  is that as sunlight is free, you are able to reduce your bills via the electricity the solar panels generate. With energy rates rising at an alarming rate (the average rate of increase has been 7% per annum) and increasing fears over our security of supply, by investing in solar panels you can future-proof your supply. Another of the advantages of solar photovoltaic is the availability of Government incentives and the reduction in your carbon footprint. In fact, you could save over 30 tonnes of CO2 over the system’s lifetime thereby doing your bit for the environment.

PV systems have low maintenance and operating costs in comparison to other renewable energy sources.

We provide both solar panels and tubes through our suppliers Joules and EuroSun.

Underfloor Heating

Probably the nicest way to heat a building is to gently warm its floors, but you also enjoy other hidden advantages – floor heating requires much lower water temperatures and is therefore well suited to heatpumps or low temperature condensing boilers etc.

As the heat is brought in at floor level, less overall input is required compared to other sources such as radiators where the warmest air immediately ascends to ceiling level. There are easy solutions for either new build or retrofit. We have different solutions whether the floors are solid or wooden, new or retrofit.

BENEFITS OF UNDERFLOOR HEATING:

We have built a strong relationship with Tiemme who supply us with our underfloor heating,

Biasi

Their Hydras Unvented Cylinders are available in 4 different types that suit all domestic installations including installations of renewable energy systems such as solar panels. They offer a direct range, which heats the water inside via an electric element inside the cylinder and an indirect range which relies on a secondary heat source such as a boiler to heat the water but still has an electric element for back up. They also have Solar Direct and Solar Indirect Cylinders which allow for connections of solar collectors as another source of heat to the Cylinder. Biasi Cylinders are guaranteed for 25 years and the accessories are guaranteed for 1 year.
